This petition has been created to show my support for Bill C-11 and to push for its improvement. The bill is given the title An Act to enact the Consumer Privacy Protection Act and the Personal Information and Data Protection Tribunal Act.

I appeal to you that when passed the bill upholds the same level of scrutiny to maintain data privacy in Canada.

The bill contains some very important suggestions:

• Bill C-11 introduces great data transparency. This will effectively allow individuals to withdraw their consent at any time.
• Bill C-11 allows consumers to take control of their data by keeping consent as the deciding factor.
• Bill C-11 also provides the right to data deletion through which the user may have their data deleted any time they chose to take back all of your information for good

But what more can it do?

The bill fails to address political ads and fact-checking mandate. Poll finds 90% of Canadians have fallen for fake news even in the form of political ads. There is a need for this to be changed and improved.

For these reasons, Bill C-11 should be revised to include better standards on political ads and enforce fact-checking immediately. Any legislation that replaces it should go a step further in providing data privacy to users in Canada.
