Protect Our Recreational Center: Say No to Unauthorized Use!

 

Dear fellow users of the recreational center,

 

We, the undersigned, stand together to voice our strong opposition to the unauthorized use of our beloved recreational center by the Office of Emergency for housing immigrants and converting it into a cooling station. This decision poses a significant threat to our mental health and violates our rights as Americans.

13.24.030 - Authority to grant permits, licenses, leases, concessions or contracts—Permittee responsibilities; appeals.

The city council may grant permits, licenses, leases, concessions or contracts for any of the acts mentioned in Sections 13.24.010,13.24.020 and 13.24.060 in city parks, upon such conditions as do not unlawfully surrender the city's right of supervision, regulation and control, are consistent with park purposes, and do not unreasonably interfere with the rights of the public to the enjoyment of the park.

Our recreational center has always been a cherished space for our community, offering a place for physical activity, social connections, and personal well-being. It plays a crucial role in promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle for all of us. However, the sudden and forced transformation of this space undermines its original purpose and disrupts the positive environment we have come to rely on.

 

We firmly believe that the decision to repurpose the recreational center without proper consultation or consideration for the impact on our mental health is unacceptable. It is essential to protect our rights as Americans, including our right to access and enjoy public facilities that contribute to our overall well-being.

 

By signing this petition, we call upon the relevant authorities to:

 

1. Immediately cease the use of our recreational center for housing immigrants and as a cooling station.

2. Respect our rights as Americans to utilize the recreational center for its intended purpose.
