Petition updateThe return of Highland cattle on Baslow Edge2k signatures and rising!

I started this petition a little under 12 hours ago and I've been amazed to see it rise to over 2000 signatures. That's amazing! It sends a clear message of support to the farmer, Mr Thorpe, who had no choice but to abide by the law and remove all of his herd from Baslow Edge. They have now all been sold.

I sincerely hope that this petition will demonstrate the very strong feelings of the majority of people who regularly visit and love this area of the Peak District, including dog walkers, who understand and respect the countryside and who would like to see a return of Highland cattle to Baslow Edge.

I also hope those in authority think much more carefully about the detriment of the cattle and the moorland when faced with similar incidents involving dogs which have been allowed to run off the lead, get too close to the herd or startle the livestock in any way. Injuries have occurred when irresponsible dog owners have been unable or unwilling to control their pets in a sensible manner around livestock. However, such injuries should not be blamed on the livestock but rather the owners of the dogs themselves. Common sense should prevail.

Since starting this petition, we have already started to gain media attention via the BBC and I hope that this continues. The message around the correct handling of dogs around livestock is one that needs more publicity.

Please help by continuing to support this petition and sharing it to friends, colleagues and groups.

Many thanks,

Justin
