Our friends at the Queensbury Tunnel Society would really appreciate your help in challenging National Highways’ renewed intention to abandon the 1.4-mile long Victorian feat. It is earmarked to play a central role in an ambitious active travel network connecting Bradford and Keighley with Halifax.

The decision to abandon has been made by Lilian Greenwood MP, Minister for the Future of Roads, who has committed £7.5M of public funding to the scheme. However, it’s clear that she has been misled by partial and skewed advice from civil servants.

Please use the link below to send a letter to the Minister, expressing your concerns about abandonment and asking her to change her mind. You can edit the draft text to say whatever you think is appropriate, but if you send the letter ‘as is’, the whole process should take less than a minute. Here’s the link…

It’s important for her to understand that many people are appalled by the wasting of significant public money just to make a few civil servants feel better about their spreadsheets. The opportunities presented by the tunnel must not be lost to those who refuse to see it as an asset.

Thank you for your support.
