Establish National Film Authority Now

Establish National Film Authority Now
The Issue
Film is and has always been the most potent tool in projecting nations over the years. That's why nations that have caught this truth do all within and without their strengths to ensure that Film receives all the support required.
This has not been the case with The Ghana Film Industry. We, as Stakeholders in Film, shudder to even refer to what we have in our side of the world as an industry. This is so because we are of the firm conviction that what we have here in Ghana, cannot be called an industry. This must be addressed immediately since Film has all it takes to make Ghana a Tourist destination, amongst many benefits.
Aside projecting the nation positively and being a tool for the shaping of policies, Film, in Ghana, has the potential to contribute greatly to the National Purse. We say potentially because Film has not received the required attention for it to blossom. It is just a dynamo awaiting resourcing to become a dynamite. Ghanaian Films need to be properly established as stipulated in Film Act 935 and equipped to ensure implementations of developmental agendas that put the industry and its players first and to the greater benefit of Ghana.
As Film Stakeholders, we do not want to believe that the passing of Film Law, Act 935, its implementation and related necessities have not been carefully considered by the Government. Ghana Film Industry deserves a place of priority in the affairs and running of the State. It must be elucidated that the Film Act 935 (2016) is useless without the implementation of Article 1, ie. the establishment and resourcing of the Ghana Film Authority. This Authority is mandated to implement the Film Law Act 935, (2016).
It’s been almost 3 years and counting and we as Film Stakeholders are tired of this delay and we will not accept excuses anymore. The unity amongst Film Stakeholders is historic in this nation and has led to the great deal of useful work that has been done towards building a good Legislative Instrument to back the Film Law.
