Qualified immunity protects police from lawsuits for the wrongful taking of life. They cannot be sued so the states pay the wrongful death lawsuits on their behalf - because qualified immunity protects them! Qualified immunity which was in the GEORGE FLOYD ACT did not pass! So compromises are being made in order to get it passed. The problem is what is being suggested does NOT do away with QUALIFIED IMMUNITY! Instead of doing away with qualified immunity law makers are "shifting" "who pays" the wrongful death compensation from the STATE which currently pays, to police departments & Municipalities. But police who have murdered remain protected. This does NOT do away with qualified immunity!! It merely "shifts" who pays in wrongful death lawsuit - leaving the officer protected, still "immune" from any penalty or punishment. #NoCompromise
