Friends, we are getting closer to the finishing line, judging by this recommendation by a Government Committee to the Police Department in Andhra Pradesh: "The Mahila Mitra System being implemented in Vijayawada can be replicated at various levels across the State of Andhra Pradesh." My heart jumped with joy when I read this line under recommendations in the Committee's report, as this is exactly what my campaign is asking for. What this means is that in another ten days i.e. by 15th November 2018 the report will be submitted to Chief Minister to take action.
The Committee is a high-profile one as it includes 11 secretaries from various government departments as well as members from 3 civil society organisations, including the one I work with Vasavya Mahila Mandali. This means that the Police Department will have to take the recommendation seriously. The recommendations were carefully made after intensive consultations that took place on a state-wide scale. 443 stakeholders were a part of this process.
This development has strengthened my faith in the system and in Chief Minister Naidu. It is because of his statement made on Women's Day that this Committee was set up by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to examine and suggest measures for the effective implementation of various legislations for the safety and women and children in the state. I am confident that the CM will make our dream of having a Mahila Mitra in every police station a reality very soon.
