Naptime during Advisory
Naptime during Advisory
The Issue
I wanted to write about this idea for maybe adding a naptime during advisory. It seems like a lot of students could really use some kind of rest break in the school day.
The benefits make sense from what I’ve read and heard from other students. Short rests can help with focus and staying alert later on. Plus, with all the homework, extracurriculars, and stuff outside school, kids end up tired more often than not. Sometimes I even find myself trying not to fall asleep during 7th and 8th period. A quick nap might improve how we retain info, cut down on stress, and even make moods better for everyone in class. Students would come back more ready to work.
Of course it would be optional. The Cougar Den time could still be for enrichment if someone doesn’t want to nap.
Some people worry about supervision or kids wasting time. I understand that. But guidelines could fix it. Keep it to just 20 or 30 minutes, leaving time to get woken back up and so that no one sleeps for too long. And keep it in a dark, quiet spot with a teacher supervising. We could do a sort of field test and see how it goes before making it a permanent option.
I think this fits with what the school wants for student wellness and success. It feels like evidence backs it up too. Rather than hurting productivity, it might actually help us learn better all day.
I'd appreciate it if you could consider this. Maybe we can talk more. The petition will show how many students want it once it’s done.
Thanks for reading this and supporting us students.
