We must not forget the 'forgotten veteran' MWD K-9's. They need humans to speak up for MWD retirement health benefits! This is a non-partisan issue. These K-9's were drafted into military service. They did not have a choice!! Our President and Congress along with Veterans Organizations must take notice.  Congress must pass legislation to help discharge financial burden currently placed on MWD (Military Working Dogs) and CWD (Civilian Working Dogs) families and caretakers as well as  retired Contract Civilian Working Dogs that were assigned to military along with non profit orgs that adopt and/or care for these veterans. It is my understanding that CWDs may do the same duties as MWD in war zones.  Only difference is MWDs are part of Defense Department and CWD are civilian contractors retained by Defense Department.  We need to have our government take care of these retired veterans K9's veterinarian and pharmacy costs in their retirement.  This may be done with a chip implanted into MWD (if not already chipped) and assigning a ID card to the K9 and have community service veterinarians under contract with VA provide that service to our 'forgotten veterans'.

Currently, HR 5081 addresses situation.  However, HR 5081 is not moving and it's author sadly passed away.  Also HR 5081 offers a third party resolution vs. direct resolution.
