Name Peregian Breeze playground in honour of Noelene Schultz
The issue
Noelene Schultz is a warm and familiar face to anybody who has spent time in the Peregian Breeze Estate.
Most of you will know her as the lady who wakes early each morning and clears up any rubbish she sees on the side of the road, starting at the estate and venturing right down to Emu Mountain Road and Murdering Creek Road.
I've asked her a few times about her motivations and it always comes back to one presiding ethos: "For the children. To ensure they grow up in a cared-for environment and so they inherit a clean neighbourhood for the future."
With this in mind, I have proposed to council we name the playground at Peregian Breeze Park (between the shops and childcare centre) the Noelene Schultz Playground.
This is in honour of her:
* Being a community-first exemplar with her daily rubbish collections
* Baking ANZAC cookies for the entire neighbourhood
* Looking out for isolated members of the community and introducing them to people who can give them companionship and support
* Running her own household, where she manages a range of health conditions within her family.
* Always being up for a chat and spreading warmth on the streets
Local councillor Maria Suarez has indicated the first step to making Noelene Schultz Playground a reality is gathering signatures to indicate there is wider support for the concept.
There are 3 segments to Peregian Breeze Park and I believe it is time we reflect this formative stage of the local community by dedicating one portion of it to someone who helped the area unite and flourish from its outset.
