Name Aquatic Center for Craig Oldham

Name Aquatic Center for Craig Oldham
The Issue
Dear Grand Blanc School Board and Superintendent,
We hope this letter finds you well. We are writing to express our strong support for naming Grand Blanc's new aquatic center after Craig Oldham, a highly respected, successful swim coach and science teacher in our community. We believe that naming the aquatic center in his honor would be a fitting tribute to his dedication, passion, and tireless efforts over many decades.
To start, Craig Oldham has been an integral part of our swimming community for 16 years as both boys and girls swim coach. As coach, he has nurtured the talents of our young athletes and instilled in them not only a love for the sport but also essential life skills such as discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. An example of this is simply his coaching tree - national level clubs, universities, and high schools can all count Craig Oldham swimmers as their coach. These coaches have produced multiple state championships and sent young adults to Olympic Trials. After retirement, his presence was still felt for years as an official of high school swim meets. Not only all of this, he even helped start and fund an annual scholarship for a deserving Genesee county swimmer.
His coaching expertise has helped Grand Blanc's swimmers achieve remarkable success both locally and on the national stage. Under his guidance, our swimmers have consistently demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and have been outstanding ambassadors for our community. This is evidenced by the multiple high school All Americans and academic All Americans he directly produced, and even more college All Americans under his indirect leadership. His swim teams not only dominated our athletic conference in a way likely never to be replicated, but consistently produced top 5 academic teams in the state of Michigan.
Moreover, Craig Oldham's contributions as a 30 yr GBHS science teacher have also left an indelible mark on the educational landscape of our area. His dedication to his students and peers have inspired a generation of young minds to pursue careers in the sciences.
Craig Oldham's impact extends far beyond the pool and the classroom. He has been a role model for his peers at Grand Blanc High School and coaches in the area, teaching valuable life lessons that extend beyond academics and athletics. His leadership and positive influence have touched the lives hundreds of individuals, and it is only fitting that we honor his legacy by naming the Grand Blanc Aquatic Center after him.
We kindly request that you consider this petition, signed by numerous members of our community who share our sentiments, to name the new aquatic center after Craig Oldham. This gesture would not only pay tribute to a remarkable individual but also serve as a source of inspiration for future generations of swimmers, students, and community members.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this request. We believe that naming the aquatic center in honor of Craig Oldham would be a meaningful way to recognize his exceptional contributions to our community.
Sincerely,
Friends of Coach Oldham
