Every community has a story it chooses to carry forward. For ours, one of those stories belongs to TM2 Henry Breault, the only enlisted submariner ever awarded the Medal of Honor, and a man whose courage on October 28, 1923 still defines the character of the Silent Service.
Putnam, CT remembers this legacy, on August 17, 2026, American Legion Post #13 will host the Henry Breault Medal of Honor Golf Tournament at Connecticut National Golf Club. It’s more than a fundraiser. It’s a living act of remembrance.
Events like this matter because they keep Breault’s example anchored in the present. His Medal of Honor was earned in a moment of instinctive loyalty, when he turned back into a flooding submarine for a trapped shipmate.
That kind of courage doesn’t age. It doesn’t fade. It becomes a standard.
Post #13 uses this tournament to support scholarships, youth programs, veteran ceremonies, and the civic rituals that hold small towns together. In other words: the same kind of community-minded service Breault himself would have recognized.
So golfers: please help me spread the word! If you can't attend you can always purchase a sponsorship or donate!
