On 1 May 2015, 29 youths were arrested for participating in the #BatalGST May Day rally. Six were freed the next day, while the remaining 23 were kept under remand for four days.

One of these youths, Maisara Amira, 21, said that a Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) officer--who was not in uniform nor wearing any ID--made a rape threat during the course of the investigation.

Maisara has since lodged a police report Petaling Jaya police headquarters over the threat.

As Malaysians, we must urge that the errant policeman be brought to justice and terminated from duty for making this rape threat.

Whether or not any the offences committed by Maisara or any of the youths arrested were serious in nature is inconsequential.

Rape threats should under no circumstances be allowed to be part of PDRM’s operating procedure when conducting investigations.

The rogue policeman must be brought to justice to avoid the reputation of PDRM—already tainted with numerous accusations of brutality and other offences—being further sullied.
