Keeping Early Years Unique
Apr 7, 2016
Hello all. Thanks for your support so far. Just keep on sharing this petition and also the government one which is almost at 17k... we need 100k by August! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/121681 Today a friend shared this link. It may be a few years old but highlights yet again just why our children are seen as failing compared to others around the world. Just look at what the Belgian, Swiss and Hungarian teachers have to say. The use of the word "dangerous" by a headteacher abroad to describe the then Tory governments push for reading, writing and maths at aged 3,4 and 5 is very powerful and thought provoking. Hearing young children in the film say I cant write, I cant do it, really upsets me and shows just how children can get switched off. Things have changed since this was broadcast. We now have an early years curriculum which is meant to focus primarily on language, social and physical development before literacy and maths. But as many of us know, and comments on the page show, for far too many children this does not happen due to government pressures. Alongside the daily news reports about our children's mental health, regular testing, our childrens failure compared to other nations, teaching crisis, parents proposing to take children on strike and forced academy programme... it's fair to say something needs to give. So please if you can find time watch this clip and share it. Hope you are all enjoying the Easter Break and springtime sun Thanks for all your stories, comments and signatures.
