Recently André Imich OBE was interviewed and asked to describe a 'wow' moment in his career as a civil servant.  He chose the meeting with Jonathan Bryan nine years ago as that moment (you can listen to the clip here). That encounter left a lasting impact, and Jonathan’s determination to read and write continues to inspire educators and policymakers today.

We are proud to share that this legacy is now being amplified through the formation of the Alliance for Inclusive Literacy — a collective of organisations, charities, and educators committed to ensuring that every child, including those with complex needs, has the right to be taught literacy. Together, we are building momentum to change practice and policy so that no child is denied the chance to read and write.

On a personal note, Jonathan’s literacy journey has given our family moments of profound meaning. This Christmas, his sisters opened a message he had written for them — a gift Jonathan prepared in December 2019 for their first Christmas without him. With their permission, we are sharing the letter in case it may bring comfort to others who are grieving at this time. It is a powerful reminder of the enduring gift of literacy: the ability to communicate love, memory, and connection across time.

Thank you for standing with us. Your support helps us honour Jonathan’s legacy and drive forward the vision of literacy for all.
