For years I have been campaigning for all children to be taught to read and write regardless of their educational label and there is still a long way to go.
Last week I was made aware of this petition calling for early years and key stage 1 curriculums to be inclusive for non-verbal children. It has been set up by a teacher who taught phonics to children in her class who are non-verbal and adapted the government assessment so that they could point to the sounds written out as they heard them. She was told the results couldn't be formally recognised.
This petition seeks to change this. Sign it here: Adapt EYFS and KS1 Literacy Curriculums to be inclusive for Non-Verbal children - Petitions
