Yesterday, I stood on the steps of Victorian Parliament as Tim Read MP from The Greens announced he would introduce a pill testing bill named in honour of my son, Daniel.
No parent should have to endure what I went through. But in the last 12 months, at least five other families have lost their child from drug overdoses at music festivals. When Daniel died seven years ago, I made a commitment that I would fight for pill testing and for the legislation to be called ‘Daniel’s Bill’. I’m thankful that is now on the way to becoming a reality, and I plead with Daniel Andrews to support it so it becomes law.
'Daniel's Bill' still has a long way to go. It will require support from the crossbench and Labor. I want to meet with any and every politician in that place between now and the bill being introduced.
Most importantly, I want to meet with Daniel Andrews, so he can hear my Daniel's story and understand why pill testing is such a missing, vital piece of the puzzle when it comes to harm reduction.
I will need your help in making that happen and soon, you'll hear how. For now, thank you for your ongoing support. Daniel was with me yesterday on those steps, and soon I hope to hear his name read aloud inside Parliament as Daniel's Bill becomes Daniel's Law.
