I have other stories of the abuse I endured at Shadow Mountain. However, I am choosing not to share them as an act of mercy towards the parent company—something I never received when I was there. My mission now is to awaken the public and those in mental institutions to the need for change. Not all are bad, but we must correct these injustices to protect other children from the suffering I experienced. Statistically, the abuse is still ongoing, and it’s time to reference the documentation and records from agencies and research surveys, such as those found in the Congressional Research Service report on mental health facilities, that show this is still happening. When will enough be enough?
