The Issue

My dog Millie was more than property; she was family. On March 9, she was taken by Macon County Animal Control. Five days later, she was dead. The shelter admitted in writing they made "zero attempts" to reach me, even though my name was listed as the owner in the responding officer's police report. The records reveal a disturbing pattern of bypassed laws: The Illegal Timeline: Illinois law (510 ILCS 5/13) mandates a 10-day quarantine for bite investigations. Millie was euthanized in only 5 days. The county has produced zero records providing a legal justification for this. No Evidence of a Bite: The responding Mt. Zion officer explicitly documented that he used a flashlight to examine the alleged victims and "did not observe any visible injuries." Proof of Non-Aggression: At the time of collection, the intake officer documented that Millie was "showing no signs of aggression." The "Blank" Bite Screen: The official legal record required to track bite severity and rabies risk was left completely blank in Millie’s file. This isn't just about Millie anymore. It’s about a systemic failure in Macon County where state actors bypass mandatory safety laws and ignore constitutional due process. If they can "fast-track" a healthy, non-aggressive dog to death while ignoring the owner's name in their own files, no pet owner is safe! I have started a petition asking for a formal audit of Macon County Animal Control, mandatory owner notification policies, and strict compliance with state quarantine laws. Will you sign and share to ensure no other family has to feel this silence?
