Investment in music education and community music group support has been falling every year for over a decade, resulting in a 30% drop in music GCSE participation and decreasing access to music making, for those least able to support their music ambitions. To highlight this issue Music for All launched the Music Makers’ Charter (MMC) in July 2024, calling for greater state investment in opportunities for music making, particularly for those disadvantaged by financial, health or social circumstances. Plus more recognition of the huge role making music plays in improving people’s educational, social and health outcomes. #TurnUpTheMusic
Through our work with The Power of Music Consortium, making music has been embedded into dementia care, improving the lives of both participants and care givers and providing much needed moments of joy. The consortium is now working with the Centre for Music Ecosystems, to broaden their remit beyond dementia into general healthcare. #PowerOfMusic
We are very grateful to all those who have added their voice to support our campaign including Music for All Ambassador and Channel 4 journalist Cathy Newman and musicians Chichi Nwanoku CBE, Hannah Rankin, Kate Rusby and Emanuel J Burton.
