Thanks to Ipswich photographer and passionate conservationist Anne Reardon for sharing this gorgeous photo of a baby Powerful Owl, photographed on the northern edge of Woogaroo Forest recently.
Dear Save Woogaroo Forest Supporters
THANK YOU for your valued support and practical assistance when able. You are making a difference!
Our group continues to advocate for the forest through a range of initiatives. Here’s what has been happening in recent months.
- Maria, our wonderful and founding President, has resigned but continues to be a member of the group and is involved in various activities. We thank Maria for her hard work and dedication. Local resident of 30+ years, Keith McCosh, was elected President at our recent AGM and will do his best to fill her very big shoes.
- We held an information stall at the Sustainable Ipswich Festival in October. Many people showed genuine interest in the forest and signed our petition to the Federal Environment Minister, Murray Watt. Our community is grieving the continued destruction of the natural environment.
- We also had a display at Booval Community Art Gallery as part of the ‘Speaking for the River’ exhibition, which was very well attended and generated some great conversations.
- Our Change.org petition has been tabled in the Federal Senate by Senator Larissa Waters. We will continue to gather signatures so please encourage your family and friends to sign.
- We continue to network, network, network…with politicians at all levels and of all persuasions; leaders of environmental groups; scientists; conservation experts; and media. We walk them through the forest if able. Some of these people in turn liaise with their colleagues – many in important positions. This also involves keeping the Federal Government informed as the ultimate decision lies there.
- Distribution of flyers continues, helping us raise awareness across Ipswich and surrounds. The word is spreading and support is growing.
- We are holding a sausage sizzle at Bunnings Springfield on Sunday 9 November to raise funds for necessary expenses such as registration of SWF and the website, flyers, corflutes etc. Drop by and see us if you are around!
Thank you again for your support.
Warm regards,
Save Woogaroo Forest Group Committee
