BMC and Mumbai Traffic Police Bureaucracy making Citizens run pillar to post for Road Safety

It has been a month since we handed our petition for Road safety to the Mumbai Traffic Police and BMC and still no action has been taken towards ensuring that our citizens are safe on the roads. On 15th January 2017, we lost our mother Snehala Karnik in a tragic hit and run accident while crossing the road on zebra crossing at Inorbit Mall junction. Thereafter, my family and I with the support of friends and local residents have been involved in bringing basic Road safety requirements to the notice of concerned authorities like BMC, Mumbai Traffic Police, MMRDA and RTO. MMRDA was the first to respond to our petition and have taken appropriate steps to ensure that roads are safe. While we have received support at the lower levels from the local traffic police, our requests to BMC and Mumbai Traffic police have been ignored. Not wanting to give up we have been running from pillar to post... PI Jadhav said speak to ACP-Planning Dadasaheb Shelke. He in turn asked us to call up Traffic control and get email ids to forward this request. Control room gave mail ids that bounced. So we went on net and found Traffic CP mail id. Traffic CP forwarded to Jt. CP. Jt. CP forwarded to ACP North.But no action so far. On 9th February, BMC P- South Ward Assistant Commissioner Mr. Dhonde had assured us in the presence of the then Shiv Sena Corporator Raju Padhye that he had already given approval for installing speed breakers on the GMLR. He had also approved the repainting of road lines at the zebra crossing and the stop lines at the traffic signals. Regretfully, after a month this work has still not started. Our question to the Mumbai Traffic Police and BMC is that is public safety of less importance in the face of BMC elections. It seems that elections are fought not to serve people but to gain power over people for personal gains! This apathy by public administration is not acceptable. Wake up Mumbai Traffic Police and BMC! The elections are over. Make the roads safe for our senior citizens and young kids.
