Dear Friends, thank you for your empathetic support. Sympathy helps but its empathy that brings about a change. It's been 12 days since our mother's accident. Every passing day increases the pain of our loss. My brother, sister and I go thru sleepless nights. And while we are suffering and trying to come to terms with the reality, the miscreants of this act roam freely. But are the tanker driver and the rickshaw driver the only ones to be blamed? What about the system that allows them to perpetrate this crime? Is the Home ministry not responsible for ensuring that all CCTV cameras especially at the main, popular and residential junctions are functional? Is the BMC not responsible for ensuring road safety? Should the MMRDA not ascertain that work is carried with utmost importance to citizen's safety? There are blind spots all over the link road. Is the traffic police not responsible for enforcing traffic regulations? And are these bodies not accountable to us tax payer's whose resources fund these projects and organizations? As citizens how much more tolerant should we be of the apathy and indifference of this civic administration? On this Republic Day, I urge you to spend some time in reading about your constitutional rights as citizens of this country. Road safety is our constitutional right.https://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.nios.ac.in/media/documents/SecSocSciCour/English/Lesson-16.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwigv6z-zd7RAhVJRo8KHSMTCZsQFggbMAE&usg=AFQjCNHN22wlcjW6h_65nbaZ95JvZON_Bg&sig2=z-xqMPNv0nhuGEXc9lXGkg Should we restrict the freedom of our parents and children because the roads are unsafe? I along with my brother Gitesh Karnik, sister Harshala Shastri and all memebers of our family thank you for your whole hearted support. We now have over 2000 supporters. I request you to spread the word of road safety among your family and friends and gather more support to bring this petition to the notice of responsible authorities. Let us make road safe for our ageing parents and young kids.
