Shame on BMC and Home Ministry

In October 2016, Mumbai Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar, declared that almost 5,000 CCTV Cameras became "operational" across the city. The Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis had launched this Rs. 1,000 crore project. Let's not forget that this Rs. 1,000 crore is all tax payer's money. My mother, Mrs. Snehala Karnik was a law abiding, tax paying citizen of this country. She was hit by a speeding water tanker on the zebra crossing at Inorbit Mall, Malad junction. The absconding driver later surrendered out of fear and was released on bail within a week. For a week we have been pursuing the police for the CCTV coverage of the accident. The driver has blamed a rickshaw for hitting our mother resulting in her fall and subsequenty being run over by the tanker. His statement can only be confirmed by CCTV camera. We visited the Bangur Nagar Police station yesterday to get an update on the situation. After 10 days of the event we are now being informed by the police that both the cameras at the junction are not working. There is no footage of the gruesome accident. If the driver's statement is true then there is a rickshaw driver roaming free as there are no eye witnesses or camera recording. Is this the plight of honest tax paying citizens of this country? We not only have to bare bad living conditions but also live with the fact that crooks cannot be brought to justice because the CCTV Cameras bought out of our hard earned money are not working. How much more should we bear this apathy and indifference to the safety and well being of tax paying citizens, Mr. Chief Minister?
