Statue Project will create a hazard for pedestrians crossing SBS Road

The Statue Project does not have permission from the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee. The Statue project will violate Supreme Court Orders of Jan 2013. Therefore plans for implementation are premature.

In addition petitioners feel that the Traffic Police Department should be consulted. The plot selected is a traffic island required  essentially for pedestrians who cross the busy Shahid Bhagat Singh Road between the BEST Bus Stand at Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya and Police Headquarters, en route to Gateway of India. The number of pedestrians who visit the Gateway of India is approximately 10,000  per hour on Sundays and Holidays. The safety of pedestrians will be affected adversely if the traffic island is blocked by a monument.

The monument will also block the vision of drivers of vehicles who negotiate through the busy traffic roundabout at Pandit Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk, and create hazards for vehicles and pedestrians from rural areas not familiar with city traffic. Model Studies will identify these hazards clearly to the authorities.
