"Slink or Swim" is the twenty-sixth episode of the first season of The Casagrandes.
When Bobby finds out Carl can't swim, he offers to show him the ways of the waves.
Synopsis:
- In the family room, Ronnie Anne comes in and says that the public pool has opened, and the family is eager to go. However, the only one who seems to not be excited is Carl, and despite his many outlandish excuses, he can't convince his family that he doesn't want to go.
- At the public pool, the family has fun either playing in the pool or just relaxing. Carl attempts to avoid going in by saying that he's hungry, and Rosa proceeds to feed him until he's incredibly bloated. Carl attempts to avoid going into the pool by throwing a chocolate bar into the pool and trick everyone into thinking it's poop. After fishing it out (and realizing it's just chocolate), the family proceeds to get some ice cream, but Bobby, taking on the job of being a certified lifeguard, tells Carl that ice cream can wait and proceeds to toss him in the water, where he struggles to stay afloat. After pulling him out of the water, Carl reveals in secret that he doesn't know how to swim, and the swim classes he took last year was actually because of a stunt double posing as him. After explaining his dilemma, Bobby says that he can teach him how to swim if can get lessons on how to tie his shoes. Carl initially denies, but when the family reveals that they got passes to come to the pool every day, Carl immediately changes his mind.
- As the days progress, Bobby tries to teach Carl how to swim properly, and Carl attempts to show Bobby how to properly tie his shoes. However, both of their teachings prove to be ineffective, as Carl nearly drowns after Bobby lets go, and Bobby's method of comprehending Carl's instructions incorrectly. Eventually, the two get into an argument and decide to stop teaching each other.
- The next day, the Casagrandes attempt to have a family photo in the pool, and as Carl gets pressured to jump in, Bobby reveals that someone pooped in the pool again, making everyone get out. Bobby secretly tells Carl that it was actually a chocolate bar, and did it to spare Carl, who apologizes for lashing out, with Carl apologizing in response. With their bond restored, the two proceed to teach each other what they were teaching before, and the two gradually succeed in accomplishing their goals, as Carl finally knows how to swim and Bobby can successfully tie his shoes.
- The next day, as the family has fun in the pool, Ronnie Anne reveals that she knew that Bobby was giving Carl swimming lessons, but didn't know that Bobby can't tie his shoes. Bobby reveals that he actually lied about not knowing how to tie his shoes in order to alleviate Carl's humiliation. However, Bobby's shoelaces, which have been tied together, causes him to trip into the pool, where he gets saved by the other lifeguard.
Trivia:
- The title of this episode sounds similar to The Loud House Season 1 episode "Linc or Swim".
- Innuendo: At the end of the episode, Bobby thought another chocolate bar fell into the pool, but it was actually Lalo's poop.
References:
- Slink or Swim - The title of this episode is a pun of "sink or swim".
- Shantae - The way Carlota whipped Ronnie Anne with her ponytail is similar to the titular character of this video game series. This is the second time she does this, as she first did it to Carl in "V.I.P.eeved".
