Everyone must realize that eliminating massive numbers of bus stops is the wrong path to making buses more attractive to riders. Decreasing accessibility through longer walks in all sorts of weather, increasing your chance to miss a bus and lengthening your trip time is a foolish strategy that the MTA is pushing.
They are making it seem like all that matters is the bus speed, when your wait time, reliability, comfort, and total trip time are just as or more important. Everyone is not physically able or wants to walk more than a quarter-mile to a bus route, the accepted domestic standard.
Why would you specifically target low usage bus stops that most buses skip anyway to eliminate? That’s what the MTA is doing just to meet international standards that do not apply to the US? It makes no sense.
Eliminating bus stops in the Bronx has not speeded up trips there and will not speed up your trip in in the other boroughs either where nearly ten times as many bus stops are proposed to be removed.
We must expose that unnecessary elimination of bus stops will further decrease bus ridership, not increase it. Reduced ridership will result in lower service levels and higher fares. No one wants that.
We have to get on the right path to improving bus service, and this is definitely the wrong one. Let the MTA know you agree.
