Is Economic Protectionism a valid concern for City Council?

The role of city council is easy. To look over the health and safety of it's citizens. Governing bodies should NOT consider economic protectionism when implementing regulations. Yet this is exactly what is happening with food trucks in Mt. Washington. This fight is no longer a simple discussion over the rights of food trucks. It's about principle now and how city council is attempting to input economic governance on capitalism within the city. 

You will see in my attached image an email that I sent to our council members addressing all the concerns they have brought up. The valid concerns of health and safety have been addressed in my version of the amendment to the food truck ordinance. I have proposed to city council that they implement a one day pass permit for food trucks. A more reasonable expense for those vendors that come out to Mt. Washington a couple times a year. By going this route the city would still be protected from lawsuit and there would be no loss of revenue to the city. 

It's a simple question now to city council. "Do we enforce economic governance by handicapping the food truck industry?"

Economic protectionism is NOT a legitimate government interest. Because of this, I am strongly opposed to the discriminatory factors placed within the Food Truck ordinance. Please consider the continual option of a one-day pass for food trucks to come out to the community.
