A lot has happened since the successful Community Petition to the government in 2022 to allow the skifields on Mt Ruapehu to open for summer and to prepare for winter 2023:

1. The Ruapehu Skifields Stakeholders Association has now been officially incorporated to make the community effort more organised and allow for proper negotiations with key decision makers. 
2. A Give-A-Little has been launched so anyone in the mountain community can easily join the RSSA and/or donate to the setup of the association. 
3. The RSSA has been negotiating with the Crown for the community be part of a co-operative structure to owning the skifields. 
4. Mountaineer Peter Hillary has agreed to be the founding patron of the RSSA.
