The government have announced an additional $6m in lending to stabilise the skifields on Mt Ruapehu. Although we can't claim direct credit for this petition influencing the government announcement, we do believe that this petition and the mountain community's voice has been heard and that helped influence the decision. A big thank you to the Government and MBIE for reconsidering the situation and providing further emergency funding.

This isn't the end of the road, but it does buy us all more time. Time to work together as a community, time to have important conversations about the future of the mountain, time to organise long-term structure, but most importantly, it buys time for those with a spanner in their hand to do the hard work of caring for the lifts.

Personally, I think we all need to say a big thank you to everyone in the community who signed the petition, wrote to their MP, shared their personal stories about the mountain and shouted about the regional economic impact.
