Reinstate Institutional Funding and Support for KU Multicultural Student Government

The Issue

The Multicultural Student Government was created and gained funding through the University of Kansas Student Senate body. Student Senate upheld their promise to double the Office of Multicultural Affair's funding by supporting a student government that would center marginalized identities. While the Multicultural Student Government has worked tirelessly to navigate the steps to codify this government and assure the government's future success, our Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little has vetoed the funding expansion. This government is a vital resource that marginalized students are requesting due to not being included or served by the current Student Senate. This government was also recently supported by a report released by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force days before and, in spite of this recommendation, the Chancellor feels differently. Our Chancellor has chosen to remove her support and not even include the proposed fee in the final budget that will be sent to the Kansas Board of Regents.

As a government we were trying and committed to creating systematic processes to assure marginalized students are represented. We are important. We matter. We deserve to be part of the decision-making, including but not limited to determining the allocation of resources. Please help us send this message to our Institution by signing this petition--we deserve to challenge the current system and promote the voices and successes of marginalized students.
