Put an end to dolphin and orca shows in Spanish dolphinaria
92 dolphins and 6 orcas are exploited in zoos in Spain, the country with most dolphins and whales in captivity in Europe. Forced to perform circus-like shows to the music, these animals suffer from stress, anxiety and even depression. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment states in it's Application Guide for Law 31/2003 for the conservation of wildlife in zoos, that these centers should not allow the use of their animals in shows such as circus-like exhibitions. Ask the Minister that following the suggestions made by its own Ministry, to end the use of dolphins and orcas in shows!
I am told by www.sosdelfines.org that Spain is the European country with most captive cetaceans. 90 dolphins and 6 orcas are used for performance in Spanish zoos.
I'm aware of the fact that the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment establishes in its Guide for the Application of Law 31/2003 for the conservation of wildlife in zoos, that these centers should not allow the use of their animals in entertainment such as circus-like displays.
Since these shows seriously affect the welfare of cetaceans, harm any educational effort directed toward the promotion of respect for nature and provide no value to the conservation of the species, I urge you to enforce the recommendations of your own Ministry and put an end to these shows in Spanish zoos.
