Eminent Netaji researcher Dr. (Ms.) Purabi Roy claims that Major General Aleksandr Kolesnikov (Retd.) had told her about the existence of a record of the Soviet cabinet members discussing Netaji’s future in a meeting in October 1946 in the GRU archive of Russia. However Major General Aleksandr Kolesnikov (Retd.) gave the Justice Mukherjee Commission of Inquiry a miss and in the absence of his evidence, the assertion of Dr. (Ms.) Purabi Roy regarding Netaji’s presence in Soviet Union after the World War II could not be acted upon. Major General Aleksandr Kolesnikov (Retd.) has appeared in a documentary film titled “Subhash Chandra Bose: The Mystery” premiered on Discovery Channel on 18.07.2016 and his appearance and the revelations made by him therein have been brought to the attention of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi. The Government of India needs to take immediate steps to obtain the admissible evidence of Major General Aleksandr Kolesnikov (Retd.) with respect to the above-mentioned finding which Dr. (Ms.) Purabi Roy has consistently over the years attributed to him and act on the basis of his revelations to persuade the Russian Government to declassify Netaji files and solve the mystery.
