Monday update and statement

After today’s meeting with the RAE students, I have even more questions about how this situation is being handled. Mr. Huff said he reviewed the bus cameras and found no derogatory comments. However, students have been told for years that the bus cameras do not record audio. So why is audio apparently being reviewed now? If the cameras do record audio, students and parents deserve a clear explanation of when that changed and what exactly was reviewed. This is also bigger than what happened last Friday. Multiple current students, RAE students, parents, and former students have come forward with their own experiences involving the principal. Dismissing all of these concerns because one incident may have been exaggerated does not address the larger pattern being reported. I also personally witnessed a former student repeatedly report bullying on a bus, including an incident where she was spit on. Despite reports being made, the student accused of bullying faced little or no visible consequences. I was even told to “show me the video,” despite the district now saying they can review bus footage themselves. We are not asking for anyone to be fired. We are asking the district to take these concerns seriously, investigate them fairly, and expect school administrators to treat each student fairly and parents with respect. The statement about discussing the "ramifications of posting false information" is also concerning. Students should not feel threatened for speaking about their experiences. If the district believes students are spreading false information, they should explain specifically what information is false and what consequences they are referring to. This isn't about attacking the school. It's about asking for accountability, and a safe environment for students to speak up when something is wrong.
