Finally KL Bird Park Is In Touch

Here's its first update - Hi Ed, Thank you very much for your feedback & it took us some time to check out the issues. The parrots are fed with fruits e.g. green apples, bananas & papayas as their main diet; there are sunflower seeds, long beans, red chilies, corns & carrots on top of that as part of their scheduled diet. The sunflower seeds you saw are not their main diet, just their morning snack. We feed them in the morning & evening with fruits & vegetables as per their scheduled diet. The blue & gold macaw in the Photo Booth named Max is donated to us and came with the behaviour of plucking its own feather. When we try to separate it from the other birds for 4 months, it looked worst when isolated from its friends. That is why we let it station at Photo Booth with its friends. We figured there were some issues like mating, stress, boredom & tick infection. We experimented on it and has yet to correct the behaviour. Max has shown better improvement by being at Photo Booth. He is however still under treatment and may be removed from the booth depending on his response to the treatment. We will relocate the bird base on its behavior or health issue. Anti-parasiticidal treatment on birds is arranged every 2 months. The first treatment started in the first week of April. Recently the weather in KL & Malaysia is hotter compared to last year. This may have increase the risk of tick infection on our birds. We have taken action as soon as our feeders notify us of the problem but it takes time to give effect on the parasites. As we are a nature park with tree & bushes where birds are free in the aviary, we are aware of that risk and are working constantly to examine and treat each bird. Please do not worry, we definitely will try our best to deliver a good environment to our birds. As for our man-made waterfall, rivers & ponds, we change the water every 2-3 weeks depending on the weather. We are working to combat the situation that rose from the heatwave that has struck Malaysia recently and will work on increasing the changing of water more frequently as best as our water supply allows. We are looking at other methods at the moment as the water level in our dam has decrease tremendously due to El Nino. We appreciate your concern that you have shown to our birds, especially our parrots. We love to share information or discuss with bird lovers to further upgrade and improve ourselves through personal sharing and experience. We will keep it up & make a better home for our birds.
