GBC stages a show trial for the Councillor who dared to question its housing number calculations

Cllr Reeve went to a great deal of trouble to analyse the numbers used in the Guildford Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA). This led to a formal complaint by the Leader of Guildford Borough Council, Mr Spooner. He complained that Cllr Reeve had released confidential information, shown disrepect for council officers and brought the council into disrepute. Given that he released just one number than was subject to confidentiality (out of more than 8,000) and that it was accepted that no one was harmed, most people believe that the whole exercise had more in common with a Soviet Show Trial.
