INTERESTING TIMES ! ! !

Boris Johnson continues to maintain that he must Deliver Brexit by October 31st  and he successfully prorogued (suspended) Parliament yesterday.

However his determination to "Deliver Brexit Do or Die" made a number of his own MPs rebel by reminding him that a No-Deal Brexit would cause chaos and was never an option on the 2016 referendum.  This provoked him to say that he would "rather die in a ditch" than not Deliver Brexit by October 31st and he banished 21 of his own MPs, including Father of the House Ken Clarke, from the Conservative (Tory) Party!

Some of the banished MPs sat as Independents, some joined the Liberal Democrats, and some said they would not stand again As he had a majority of 1 (one) in the House of Commons this rather hampered his plans.

Parliament were able to pass a law preventing Mr. Johnson from taking the UK out of the EU without a deal. They also managed to pass another law that any Brexit deal must be agreed in Parliament before another General Election. They also passed a law that the Prime Minister should disclose all the advice received about the effects of Brexit on the Economy, it's effects on the UK's standing internationally, etc.

MPs sat until 2.30am on the last day they could sit before the prorogation took effect. The Opposition benches were crowded compared with the number of MPs on the Tory benches. After the debate a number of Opposition MPs held up placards with "Shame on You" which some also called out. Most of the Government MPs left the chamber while the Opposition benches sang protest songs.

Cases were presented to the Scottish and English Courts alleging that Boris Johnson's proroguing of Parliament was illegal and that he had misled the Queen.  Today the Scottish High Court ruled the prorogation to be illegal, because it was for a political purpose to stymie Parliament.

The English case brought by Gina Miller and previous Tory MP John Major was initially lost, but will be heard on appeal in the Supreme Court on Tuesday 17th September.

Meanwhile Boris Johnson, having received some criticism because a No-Deal Brexit would risk the integrity of the United Kingdom, has suggested a 30 mile bridge from Scotland across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland, "to maintain unity."  An interesting way of trying to solve the problem of the Irish backstop which he dislikes so much.He has also suggested a backstop in Northern Island only, making the Irish border in the Irish Sea, which had been discounted previously because it would risk the peace in Ireland, which had been so hard won, as dissenting Irish Nationalists would be likely to fight for the unification of Ireland and dissolution of British rule of Northern Ireland. He had a meeting with Leo Veradkar, Irish Tsaoiseach, who confirmed that Ireland would insist on the safety of the Irish backstop, although it may not be needed.

Meanwhile Labour Leader, Jeremy Corbyn has said that Labour will campaign for another referendum to include a credible Brexit deal or to Remain in the EU. However today Deputy Leader Tom Watson has said that Labour should unequivocally campaign to Remain in the EU because no Brexit deal is a good deal. Social media have been making much of this and vilifying Tom Watson, saying he should not disagree with Jeremy Corbyn but I maintain that he is entitled to his own opinion.

I have written to Boris Johnson several times but he has been too busy to reply.

I have also written to a number of Tory MPs and will write to the rest of them before the Party Conference to remind them that not everyone thinks that Brexit is a good idea.

Meanwhile there a number of marches and protests against Brexit.

Type Anti-Brexit Marches  or Anti-Brexit Campaigns into your search engine and you will find what is happening in your area.

GOOD LUCK!
