Mr. Antonis Kambourakis - Mayor of Rhodes: Solve the mystery of the 300 missing street cat

Das Problem

DE/EN/

Since the end of last year more than 300 (mostly neutered) cats have disappeared without trace from feeding areas on Rhodes, which are looked after by local volunteers and animal welfare activists. The animals have been fed, neutered and medically treated for years. - And every day we receive new reports about the disappearance of large parts of well cared for cat colonies.

We as flying cats e.V. and other animal welfare organisations working on Rhodes are very concerned about this development. Such a systematic disappearance of cats has not occurred on Rhodes for years.

At the beginning of February, a person who has been caring for a colony of about 20 cats in the "New Market" for many years posted on the local animal shelter site of Rhodes that three of her neutered, trusting cats had disappeared untraceable, two days later it was five missing, then ten, then 13... - In response to this post, local cat colony carers from all over the city reported that the same phenomenon had been observed in their colonies since end of last year. So, we joint our foces and decided together with the local activists to keep a list with the location and number of missing cats. Up to today we have well over 300 missing cats.

Since nobody seems to know what or who is behind this cruel phenomenon, we ask the responsible mayor Mr. Antonis Kambourakis with this petition to pursue and clarify the systematic disappearance with vigour.

The team of local animal welfare activists, with whom we work together across associations, spares no effort to find out what happened. So the Greek colleagues were on television and attention-grabbing articles were published both in the highest-circulation newspaper in Rhodes as well as in a national newspaper in Athens.

Please sign this petition and help us to save these poor souls! - Otherwise there will be no more cats on Rhodes until the beginning of the tourist season!

Best regards
