URGENT On Sept 21st, UPPCO filed a case at the Michigan Public Service Commission requesting a 2-year waiver from certain billing rules related to meter reading. UPPCO is asking the Commission for an immediate “ex parte” ruling WITHOUT the opportunity for the public to comment. In the filing UPPCO says “UPPCO represents that it is committed to providing excellent customer service.” UPPCO then threatens that if the Commission does not grant their request for an immediate waiver, that they will accelerate their request for another rate increase of at least $914,000. WHAT YOU CAN DO Write or email the Commission and ask them to grant only a six month waiver and during that time conduct a formal investigation into UPPCO’s billing practices and problems with meters. Put in your own experience with customer service and the problems you have had with the new meters where your bills have gone up despite no increased electricity usage. It is urgent as many people write today to put the Commission on notice that there is a big problem here that needs to be investigated.
