Fair Yooper Rates

The fight goes on! The big issue right now is a new law mandated plan on how the Upper Peninsula gets its power. This mandate is called Integrated Resource Planning or IRP for short. We want FAIR rates coming from electric sources that are efficient and green such as hydro, wind, solar, gas and biomass. The same old game is not the answer. For example, affordable hydro electric from Canada coming in at Sault Ste. Marie would eliminate the need to build 2 expensive, gas fired plants in Baraga. These proposed plants would actually RAISE customers rates. The Canadian plan could lower rates. There is a Sept 19 public meeting in Marquette with the MPSC to inform the public of the process and most importantly, take public comment. The meeting is at NMU in the Huron/Erie Room from 12-4pm. We need a comprehensive, well thought out plan that considers all options. A premature MPSC approval of 2 new gas fired plants that benefits the Cliffs' mines more than the consumer should not go forward because it puts a large, unfair, financial burden on residential ratepayers. We need your voice at the public meeting. For more information, see https://fair-power-up.rallycongress.net/ If you agree, please sign this petition so we can turn these in as part of the official record. Thank you!
