Move Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to a Non-Working Royals Section on Royal.uk
The Issue
We, the undersigned, respectfully call upon the Royal Household to review the placement of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, on the official website of the British Royal Family, Royal.uk.
In January 2020, Harry and Meghan announced their decision to step back from their roles as senior working members of the Royal Family. Their departure from official royal duties was subsequently confirmed, and they have since established independent professional and commercial ventures.
More than six years later, their continued inclusion within the website’s principal Royal Family profiles raises an important question about how the monarchy presents its current working representatives to the public.
The official Royal Family website should provide a clear and accurate distinction between those who actively undertake duties on behalf of the Crown and those who no longer serve in an official working capacity.
This petition does not seek to erase Harry and Meghan’s place in royal history, diminish their family relationships, or challenge their existing titles.
Rather, it requests a straightforward administrative change that reflects their publicly established roles.
We respectfully request that Buckingham Palace:
Relocate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s individual or joint profiles to a clearly designated Historical Royal Family or Non-Working Members of the Royal Family section.
Ensure that the principal profiles section clearly distinguishes members who currently undertake official duties on behalf of the Crown.
Maintain an accurate historical record of Harry and Meghan’s previous royal roles without suggesting that they continue to represent the monarchy in an official working capacity.
The British monarchy is an institution built upon continuity, public service and constitutional tradition. Its official communications should reflect those principles through clarity, consistency, and transparency.
This proposed change would not rewrite history. It would simply acknowledge the distinction between royal family membership and active royal service.
We urge the Royal Household to implement this reasonable and proportionate update to Royal.uk.
Respectfully,
The Undersigned Supporters of the British Monarchy
