Forgotten Alamogordo Chimpanzees Deserve Sanctuary Now!
Forgotten Alamogordo Chimpanzees Deserve Sanctuary Now!
The Issue
Tell Dr. Francis Collins to send the Alamogordo chimpanzees to sanctuary.
Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health has betrayed his commitment to retire more than 40 chimpanzees held at the Alamogordo Primate Facility (APF) on Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. Faylene, Sherril and their friends need your help!
For decades, chimpanzees at APF:
- Were stolen from their mothers
- Infected with HIV, Hepatitis C and other human illnesses
- Endured liver biopsies and other painful procedures
Faylene, now 39 years-old, was forced to endure needle liver biopsies multiple times every week when she was just a child.
Sherril, who was born at APF, taken from her mother as an infant and survived decades of abuse is 49 years-old.
Tell Dr. Collins and members of Congress the decision to keep them and the others at the lab is unacceptable. Danny died recently and never had the chance to experience life at Chimp Haven. The surviving chimpanzees urgently need you to speak up today.
At Chimp Haven, chimpanzees have lived into their 60s. They climb trees, live in large, bonded social groups, eat their favorite fruits, play and explore in a beautiful forested setting. The remaining Alamogordo chimpanzees have suffered tremendously and are still housed in the lab where they were used in cruel and painful experiments.
Dr. Collins is keeping them from having a better life and you’re footing the bill! Housing the chimpanzees at APF is nearly three times more expensive than Chimp Haven. Retiring them to sanctuary will save millions in taxpayer dollars and after decades of torment and abuse they deserve better.
Please join me and demand Faylene, Sherril and the others be sent to sanctuary.
The clock is ticking, and they urgently need your help today!
Thank you for standing up for them,
Laura Bonar, Chief Program and Policy Officer
