The Stop It Foundation's petition that encourages LDS General Authorities to make policy changes on protecting children from abuse is gaining traction. In a very short period of time, the petition had over 50 supporters sign the petition. According to Change.org, only 15% of the petitions started get over 50 supporters, with them sending us the following message, "Congratulations, Brian! Reaching 50 supporters is a big achievement for any petition. In fact, only 15% of petitions reach this level of support." With that being said, our work on this petition has only just begun. Its final success relies on supporters like you discussing and then sharing the petition with others both in person, and on social media like Facebook. Changing minds on the Bullying Awareness issue will only come one heart at a time. We realize we can also only focus on and encourage policy change for one organization at a time as well. The success of this petition is the first Domino towards a greater cultural change in society, and will allow for a greater pressure to be placed on other organizations to review their Bullying Awareness policy once it succeeds. Currently it is very common for organizations to treat the suicide death of a child as a "Liability Concern" when documented abuse is involved, it is 'good legal advise'. This 'good legal advice' extends to encouraging organizations to avoid bullying awareness policy that would protect children and save lives, because this same policy also increases potential liability. The Stop It Foundation suggests that such 'good legal advice' lacks a moral foundation, and is the largest obstacle to a cultural change on the Bullying Awareness issue. Only when enough organizations realize that the monetary savings of following 'Good Legal Advice' are no longer worth the bad publicity of being exposed for placing profits over the safety of children will real change be achieved. Many, many children are counting on us all to progress this cause. Thanks again for your support, Brian Bresee The Stop It Foundation
