Graduate students at Morgan State University are concerned that their Spring commencement date was changed without notice or input from students themselves. The graduation date was changed from Saturday, May 21, 2016 to Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 6pm.

This presents a problem as 6pm is within the prime time of rush hour traffic. This is also concern for individuals who have supporters who are coming from out of town and those who are working. The division of Undergraduate and Graduate commencement celebrations leaves a feeling of alienation that is extremely disappointing and unwarranted.  

Yet, if we can not celebrate our accomplishment with the rest of our Morgan family, we would like to at least celebrate with our families during an accommodating date and time.   

That said, we ask for one of the following options in lieu of the recent change: 

- Include graduate students in the commencement ceremony on May 21, 2016

- Have the graduate commencement ceremony on May 20, 2016 at 7pm

- Have the graduate commencement on May 22, 2016 between the hours of 9am 12pm   

We hope that you seriously consider our request as this is an accomplishment we have all worked hard for and we would like this to be a joyous and memorable occasion.
