***BREAKING NEWS*** Prime Minister Declares Climate Emergency in the Pacific
At last, in a glimmer of hope, Australia's new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese yesterday declared a climate emergency in the Pacific.
See attached for the full article from the SMH.
This is particularly significant, coming after 9 years of the previous government's procrastination, obfustication and a lot of other words ending in 'tion', none of which amounted to taking appropriate action to support the nation in mitigating against and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
Supporters of the Moreton Climate Action Now campaign will use this news to support and encourage Moreton Bay Regional Council to take the first small step and giant leap of declaring a climate emergency, bringing it in line with 105 local government areas and us in line with 10.2 million other Australians.
Please help us by sharing this petition again to reach 500 signatures that we can take to Council to show that people are watching and really do care.
Let's give it one more push and get the petition over the line.
Stay well and warm, everyone.
