Thank you, yet again for signing the Moreton Climate Action Now campaign petition to Council regarding their taking stronger action in mitigating and adapting to the projected impacts of climate change.
But the issue is much bigger than local government alone.
We all know that in order for levels of greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced sufficiently to keep the overall global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees, more robust measures must be taken by all levels of government.
Therefore, earlier this week, in order to gain more information as we go to the polls tomorrow, the Moreton Climate Action Now campaign emailed all candidates for the seats of Dickson, Longman and Petrie which cover the Moreton Bay Regional Council area asking for Yes / No responses to the following five climate change questions:

1. Engage globally and advocate for a planned phase-out of coal, oil and gas, by 2030 to limit the global temperature increase to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius? Yes/No
2, Increase Australia's 2030 emissions reduction target to at least 50% below 2005 levels? Yes/No
3. Withdraw government support for new gas infrastructure, carbon capture and storage and blue hydrogen? Yes/No
4. Drive and financially support a major initiative to electrify energy to the greatest extent possible? Yes/No.
5. Establish a 'Just Transition Authority' ? Yes/No

While somewhat disappointing, these results highlight why our continuing to take action such as signing petitions like this are one important way to make our voices heard.
