Dear ,,,,,
My name is Seran Magraci and i am the one who has started this petition. The reason for this is to purely to identify and prevent illegal and or inappropriate behaviour including damage of graves and grave stones and to people, which has caused potentially severely stress, anxiety and worry to family and friends of the deceased at the cemetery.
As you are aware, about 3.45pm on November 1, 1997, MERSINA Halvagis was murdered and i am sure she never would have thought she would be murdered in a cemetery. Ms Halvagis believed Fawkner Cemetery would be a “place of peace and reflection”. She walked along Row M to her grandmother’s grave — plot M33 — and placed down the flowers and the lemonade she had brought for her grandmother. Dupas, who murdered Mersina had approached another woman before approaching Mersina at the cemetery that day and stabbed Ms Halvagis in the neck, chest and abdomen. He inflicted over 50 wounds during the frenzied attack.
In November 2013 the gravesite of a stillborn baby boy was desecrated. Craigieburn mother Theresa Slater arrived at Fawkner Memorial Park's Garden of Angels on November 14 to find her son Christian's memorial damaged and sentimental items stolen. In March of that year also Vince Bartko and Maria Raciti discovered the gravesite of their stillborn son, VJ, was vandalised and a model Harley Davidson motorbike stolen.
June 2018 - 20 graves were vandalised. 26th of July 2021 at least 50 was damaged.
So what i am asking is how many more times are family and friends going to suffer, losing someone and burying them is bad enough, but to turn up to your loved one's grave to see it damaged not only financially effects the member but it psychologically destroys the family member.
Some are saying that having cctv impacts their privacy, what privacy are we talking about? We should all feel safe. As a female when i go to visit my brothers grave Serkan Kemal (my mum Pembe Kemal is know by the members of Fawkner Memorial Park) i sometimes to feel shaken a bit and uncomfortable of the silence in the cemetery. I only stay a matter of minutes and leave. Knowing there is cctv will make me feel more comfortable and protected. It is costing use thousands of dollars to repair these damaged graves so why not install cctv to protect further graves being damaged. Making people especially females feel more safe at least.
We lay our loved ones to peace, we find peace when we go visit them. Please help us keep our loved ones in peace for eternity.
I will be speaking to another Parliament Member tomorrow and make some phamblets and distribute them. I want to feel safe when i go and im sure so does other people. I do not want to come and see my brothers grave damaged one day, or someone getting raped/ murdered again,
Please help us.
Thank you
