I am writing to you today with regards to the unjust and urgent situation that my friend, Professor Matthew Freeman, is currently facing. Professor Freeman is a highly respected academic who has been living and working in the UK for over 20 years. He has a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering gained from the University of Leeds, and his contributions to our society are invaluable. He has mentored countless young scholars and has helped start multiple charities such as Moray Wellbeing Hub, VOX Scotland, Reboot, and TSI Moray. In addition to his academic and philanthropic achievements, Matthew has also served as the Vice President of Education for the Highlands and Islands Student Association and has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of students across the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Despite all of his contributions, Matthew is facing an unjust deportation over a visa status misunderstanding. This is a grave injustice, and it is causing significant distress to Professor Freeman and his community, as well as to the wider academic and charity communities who all deeply value Matthew's contributions. Despite Matthew's best efforts to resolve this, he is at risk of losing everything he knows here in Moray. This is especially distressing given that Matthew struggles with bipolar disorder, a severe mental health condition that significantly affects his well-being.

I am writing to humbly request your immediate and unwavering help in resolving this situation. As an elected representative of the people and previous Minister of the UK Government, I understand that you have the power and responsibility to speak directly with the Home Secretary and demand a just and permanent resolution to this issue. I urge you to use your influence to help secure Matthew's permanent status as a UK resident, given that he is a British citizen who has contributed so much to our society. It is in the best interests of our country to retain talented individuals like Professor Freeman, and failure to do so would be a tremendous loss to our community, region and country.

I kindly request that you take prompt and thoughtful action on Matthew's behalf, and I would be grateful if you could keep me informed of any developments in this case. Matthew's future and the future of the academic and charity communities in Moray who benefit from his unbelievable contributions, is at stake, and I am truly grateful for your assistance in helping to resolve this issue.
