The EPA has ordered the cancellation of 12 neonicotinoids out of 59. These chemicals, however, can still be sold until 2020, so there is much work to do! Only 20% of neonicotinoids have been cancelled, and there is 80% more to go. These chemicals are systemic, meaning they are absorbed by the whole plant and harm the insects that feed on them. We are getting closer to banning these harmful chemicals, but there is much more work to do. To protect not only our crops, but the groundwater surrounding them, and the insects (primarily bees) feeding on them.
