Barnum's Animals: Keep PETA's hands off our crackers.

The Issue

Let Mondelez International/Nabisco know that Barnum's Animals Crackers didn't need a "PC" virtue-signaling change. I believe the overwhelming majority of people had no issue with the familiar former box style and will miss it.

PETA killed the circus, don't let them kill our circus cookies. "The crackers' namesake circus -- Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey -- folded for good. The 146-year-old circus, which had removed elephants from its shows in 2016 because of pressure from PETA and others, closed in May 2017 because of slow ticket sales."

There is no place in the animal shaped cookie world for animal rights politics. The animals on the box aren't real and just virtue-signaling for the appeasement of a small group alienates the main consumer base who are tired of politics entering every aspect of our lives. Can we not just enjoy animal cookies in peace? The animals depicted on the boxes were happy and healthy where they were. Does it matter if animals in the real world are kept in cages? Most would say yes. Does it matter if animals in the cookie world are kept in cages? Most would say no.

Bit by bit, pieces of our past that are deemed "not PC" are being steadily erased by people like those at PETA. How is it that the few get to dictate how the many must live? If we do not hold onto our past, whether it PC, not PC, sad, angry, or wonderful, it will be gone and be too late to get it back. I want to be able to share the same cookies with my grandchildren that my grandparents did with me, caged animal box and all. Additionally, I never saw them as living in cages. To me, they were just being transported in the caged rail car to the next circus, happily enjoying the passing scenery.

I would also like to suggest two possible roads to take going forward if we cannot achieve a reverse of the decision. The first path being that Mondelez International/Nabisco return the old box as it was but keep the new box as well. Let people decide whether they want to remember the past or begin a new future with their cookies. Give them different UPCs and see which the public chooses. The second path would be to change the name in addition to the animal depiction. If the treatment of the animals was so harsh that their being released from cages is being celebrated, the box should not depict the name of the alleged tormentor anymore either. The name should better represent the new free-rangedness of the animals. Possible ideas could be "Madagascar the Cookies: Ready 4 Snack Time" animal crackers, "Male Animals Allowed on the Box Only" animal crackers, "What Happened to the Baby Animals?" animal crackers, or finally "PETA Ruins Childhood Memories" animal crackers.

TLDR; I loved the cracker box the way it was and feel the change erases fond parts of my childhood. I hope I am not alone in this. Thank you.
